Palermo-Padova 2-1, Calvarese on red in Carissoni
Gianpaolo Calvarese, former referee, through his social channels analyzed one of the most discussed arbitral episodes of the Palermo-Padova 2-1 final: the direct expulsion of Carissoni for the foul committed on Vavassori, launched towards the door. Calvarese explained that he had initially a different perception of the episode: «In live, I must admit that the red card extracted from Di Bello in the final of Palermo-Padua had seemed excessive». The evaluation of the former arbitrator has changed after reviewing the images: "Rethought the episode, especially through the still image at the time when Vavassori tries to overcome Carissoni and suffers the fall, the evaluation changes". Calvarese therefore dwelled on the parameters to be taken into account to evaluate a possible DOGSO, i. e. the denial of a clear opportunity from goal: "There is no particular doubt about the possession of the ball, the direction of the action and the distance from the door. The most complex element concerns the position of the other defender, Lovato, but from the images it seems that he too hardly would have managed to recover".
