Former Palermo national team coaches, not Italy
News: Not just Italy, the former Palermo players who have coached national teams. The resignation of Gennaro Gattuso from the Azzurri bench and the name of Silvio Baldini being linked in recent hours to the role of possible ferryman have brought a curious topic back into the news: that of former Palermo coaches who have become technical commissioners. Among the oldest names is Rudolf Hiden, former Rosanero coach, who also coached the Turkish national team in his career. After working in Turkey in the second half of the 1950s, he also coached the Turkish national team, before returning to Italy and subsequently sitting on the bench of Palermo. After his experience on the Palermo bench, Mangia was coach of the Italy Under 21 team, but subsequently also led the Malta senior national team from 2019 to 2022. When we talk about former Palermo coaches arriving at a national team, our thoughts immediately turn to Italy and the precedent of Giuseppe Viani, or to the current situation of Gattuso and the Baldini hypothesis.
