News: Palermo’s midfield has experienced a real hierarchical revolution which has seen Gomes and Blin move from the role of immovable starters to that of valuable alternatives. As reported by AlessandroArena in the Giornale di Sicilia, this “descending” parable is mainly linked to the explosion of the pair formed by Segre and Ranocchia, now fixed points of Inzaghi’s midfield, combined with tactical choices that reward different characteristics compared to the past. The transition from Dionisi’s 3-5-2 to “Superpippo’s” 3-4-2-1 has in fact taken away numerical substance from the central department to strengthen the attacking midfield, leaving room for a balancer like Segre and a director like Ranocchia. Gomes, despite boasting 21 appearances, only started on 6 occasions, while Blin stopped at 17 appearances with just 3 starts from the first minute, also affected by a long-term thigh injury. However, in view of the busy schedule that awaits the squad, both players remain fundamental resources to guarantee the necessary turnover and keep the quality of the maneuver high.
