Between the Serie A dream, the clarity surrounding his departure from Pisa, and those goals he’ll have to forgive, SuperPippo is thrilled with the welcome he’s received from the Rosanero club:
“I was just waiting for this call, Palermo has given me renewed enthusiasm. We have a dream, and I don’t think there’s much we can do. Just show our faith.”
“Serie A? No, I don’t want to say anything, we have a dream.”
This is how Pippo Inzaghi introduces himself to the Rosanero world, as the new coach of Palermo.
Fresh from an extraordinary promotion to Serie A at the helm of Pisa, SuperPippo is ready for a new chapter in the second division.
A chapter whose final word is obviously yet to be written, but the objectives of the Sicilian club are already very clear.
“We have a club that’s ready, the fans that are ready. For me, it will be more difficult than last year, because last year I started with the lights off, but now I have a Champions League crowd, so I’m not afraid of anything.”
Inzaghi first clarified his departure from Pisa and the subsequent decision to accept the Palermo offer:
“I didn’t choose between Pisa and Palermo, but I chose Palermo after finishing with Pisa, it’s worth clarifying. I could have stayed put and was just waiting for Palermo. I was hoping to receive this call.
Furthermore, I’ve known Gardini and Osti my whole life, so there was no need for anything else. When Palermo came along, my enthusiasm was rekindled.”
The former striker’s multi-year contract with Palermo will last several years, but the initial goal is short-term: to return to Serie A and then stay there permanently. This is also based on Inzaghi’s certainty.
“For me, Palermo is already very strong; they were the favorites last year, from the outside. I don’t think there’s much we can do, just trust these players.”
The new Palermo coach then revealed that he congratulated Gennaro Gattuso on his appointment as national team coach. According to SuperPippo,
Ringhio will be the right coach for this Italy team:
“Gattuso and I spoke when he became national team coach. I’m happy because we shared so many victories together, we congratulated each other. I hope Italy goes to the World Cup, and he has all the skills to do it.”
