Mr.Baldini, Conference before the match against Turris
After the beating in the match against Foggia in the midweek round of last Tuesday, Palermo returns to “Renzo Barbera” to face Turris on the occasion of the 28th day of group C of Serie C.
Silvio Baldini’s first defeat in his second experience on the rosanero bench came against Zdenek Zeman’s team, with a non-functional change of form for the Sicilian team that caused the 4-1 in favor of the Apulians. The Tuscan technician himself took responsibility for the error, admitting it several times during his statements. On the eve of the match against the Campania club, Baldini spoke at the press conference to immediately project himself into tomorrow’s match.
We will return to 4-2-3-1 because it is the module that has given us more balance and certainty. Both Buttaro and Dall’Oglio trained as a group, but they only did the last two sessions together with their teammates without working separately. Changing form against Foggia was my mistake and I take responsibility for it. I certainly thought I was helping the team and I didn’t.
At 2-1 I entered Crivello, but it is clear that the team, despite playing with a defender rather than a striker, no longer had the right balance that allowed them to take advantage of it. It is true that we were not a dead team. However, there was a feeling that the race could be reopened at any time.
Balance is essential, the only match in which we were unable to push in the bud – continues Baldini – was against Foggia and we were defeated. We have to face the matches with individual duels, even Turris plays one on one. I don’t think he has a stronger squad than Palermo, but football teaches you that this doesn’t mean anything.
Tomorrow we face a team that hurt us in the first leg, if I remember correctly they won 3-0, but we need to show that we have the right qualities to do well. Foggia made many mistakes, but they put determination and Zeman’s philosophy of attacking always made the difference. A fan at the stadium must get excited, winning 1-0 without building anything makes little sense. Often a defeat builds more than a win or a draw.
The rosanero coach also focused on two players from his squad: “Silipo? It’s not that I don’t let players play out of sympathy. I watch them in training and if a player doesn’t give me certain guarantees, I have to make choices. If I see that other players give me more guarantees than him, I choose them.
Silipo could go to play in Serie A because he has important technical qualities that are not discussed, but today I have to look for functional players at Palermo. Time can definitely improve the player. Damiani? He is not yet the player I had available in Carrara. Last year he won Serie B with Empoli, this year he hurt his ankle and made no appearances. When you are six months without playing you have to find rhythm and condition. At the debut he did very well, in the other matches I have not seen him so brilliant.
In Carrara I have never replaced him, I look at the pitch and I rely on that. I have seen few as good as him, the more he will grow and the more he will give a great contribution to the team.
